Markaz knowledge city: Construction works to start soon

    Kaithapoyil [Kozhikode]: The knowledge city project by Karantur Sunni Markaz, catering some major initiatives in health and education sectors will have its construction works started within days, said Kanthapuram AP Aboobacker Musliyar. The first stage of the construction works estimated at a cost of around 300 crore INR will be realised within three years, said the top religious scholar from Kerala. “During my visits to foreign countries, the Arabs, the Europeans, Africans and Americans used to ask me whether Markaz could enrol their kids as well in the future. Markaz has undertaken this major initiative – ‘the knowledge city’ taking into consideration their queries as well the memories of a glorious past of the Muslim community in the educational and health sectors,” said AP Aboobacker Musliyar speaking to TCN over phone.

   Markaz is about to celebrate its 35th anniversary this time and the dream project - Knowledge City will be our most cherished dedication to the nation, said the Sunni leader. Renaissance in its real sense takes place when the down-trodden gets liberated. So it is important to stick to the fundamentals of Islam and stand firm on your decision to maintain the rituals and faith associated with it; it is along with this the community should be able to communicate with the trends in the modern world. The Knowledge city so will be the right kind of approach to mould believers towards a much needed renaissance, he informed.

      The project declaration and land acquisition were held at the proposed land at Kaithapoyil on December 23 by Samastha president Abdurahman al Bukhari. Markaz has kept apart 100 acres of land for the project close to the Kozhikode City. The function was attended by several religious scholars. A Unani medical college is expected to start functioning within a year at the proposed knowledge city site. The knowledge city project besides includes a multi-speciality hospital, IT park, Law college, special school, International convention centre and technical educational institute.

     The construction works will progress in accordance with fund collected from the public, and as per the present plans, the whole project will get realised within five years. As soon as the project get realised to its full effect, it will cater almost 20,000 employment opportunities, informed AP Aboobacker Musliyar.

I am delighted to address and interact with the teachers and science students of various colleges of Jamia Markaz. I am happy that Markaz has built a reputation for its contribution of providing modern education combined with Islamic teachings. My greetings to all of you. I am very happy to be in the midst of science students. Science has grown and blossomed and will blossom, what is the nutrient for the growth of science? It is only question and question till you get an answer, experimentally or theoretically or both. I would like to talk on the topic "Questioning mind is the nutrient for blossoming of science".

My experience in the environment of question and questions I recall in the year 1970s, one side I had to work with Dr. P.D. Bhavsar, with his sodium payload (my team was building sodium payload) with his counterpart in France Prof. Blamont. The same rocket launch would have Langmuir probe of Dr. Sathya Prakash with his NASA counterpart. I still remember, many successes came in getting the data from 60 to 200 km on the atmospheric structure using sodium payload, also the Langmuir probe. Another important experiment the magnetometer of Dr. Sastry with his research students. Dr. Sastry put, so many restrictions on the flight because of the magnetometer - payload. It was a challenging task to work with Prof. Sastry. Then comes my work with Prof. Pokunkov, Meteorological Centre of Moscow. What a delicate instrument he used? It was a beautiful thing to see Prof. Pokunkov?s payload (radio frequency mass spectrometer). It was not only the science of measuring the atmospheric constituents, but the payload looked beautiful also. Somehow I started liking Pokunkov. We used to work for him many days and nights. He used to bring sandwiches and a flask full of tea. He was feeding us throughout the night. In those formative days it was helpful. Then comes my hero, Prof. UR Rao, with his counterpart Prof. Oda who gave me the toughest problem which I came across in building the payload. I don?t know, why his proportional counter in x-ray payload should be so delicate such that no shock should be experienced except earth's "g" when the nosecone jettisoned at 60 kms. All the sounding rockets would spin. When the rocket spins, naturally the part of the jettisoned nosecone will hit the experiencing a shock of in 6 "g" for few milliseconds. Now I had to devise a unique fiber glass rim as a shock guard. We allowed the split nosecone to hit on the ring thereby absorbing the shock. When the x-ray data was received from specified stars, he treated our team beautifully with a good dinner. All these scientists belonging to different disciplines, we could solved only through the questioning minds of our scientists and engineers and the patience of the responding scientists. Above all, this experience with Prof. Vikram Sarabhai and his expert?s scientists really gave me to work with the greatest university with men of scientific eminence nationally and internationally with a scientific way of working. It was working, intellectual working, scientific and technological working, and above all when the failure occurred, defeating the failure and succeeding were the greatest lessons learnt from Prof. Sarabhai?s leadership. All set for Ramadan congregation in Kerala ( gulftoday news for Swalath Nagar )

MALAPPURAM: Tens of thousands of people have started pouring in at the Swalath Nagar where the annual prayer meeting will be held on Wednesday.

Organisers say more than half a million believers are expected to take part in the meet, as in the past, and they will take pledge a pledge against terrorism and pray for peace and harmony on the holy night.

“This is the largest prayer congregation in India in the holy month of Ramadan and it is considered as the third largest spiritual meet after Makkah and Madina during Ramadan,” said Sayyid Ibrahimul Khaleelul Bukhari, chairman of Madin Academy who will lead the prayers.

Madin Academy organises the prayer congregation every year on the 27th night of the holy month, taking pledge against terrorism.

This year, the spiritual meet coincides with the celebrations of India’s 65th independence day.

“Here, people congregate in search of the blessing of the greatest night, called Lailathul Qadr, the Night of Power, which is compatible to thousand months,” said Bukhari.

The programme will be telecast and webcast for the benefit of those who could not make it to the venue.

Live streams from different venues will be available at the official website www.mahdinonline.com.

Elaborate arrangements have been made to accommodate thousands of people at Swalat Nagar comprising 14 grounds.

More than a dozen programmes were arranged on the Madin campus as part of the prayer meeting.
The prayers will begin at 4.30pm and continue till to 2.30am on Thursday, extensively engaged by various kinds of activities such as spiritual supplication, invocations, voluntary prayers and repentance (thoubah).

Thousands of women have attended an exclusive session titled “Better Family for Better Nation” on Monday on the campus, which has been witnessing mass Iftars everyday attended by people from all walks of life.

A Ziyarat programme was conducted on Sunday with the intention of finding traditions of “Mahals.” Vision 2012, a special orientation camp for the blind, and Reason for Mercy, a relief campaign, were also conducted as part of the programme.

Wahabi Terrorists Blamed for Explosion at Zuhayr Ibn Qais Al-Balawi Tomb

Zuhayr Ibn Qais Al-Balawi is revered in Libya as he was one of the leaders who helped bring Islam to North Africa. He succeeded Uqbah bin Nafi who was martyred in 63 as he fought in North Africa.


Al Balawi managed to defeat and killed the king of the Berbers, Kaseelah.


Salafists have been blamed by angry locals for the bombing which happened about 7 a.m. The bomb destroyed the building over Balawi’s grae but the actual grave is reported not to have been damaged.

While Libya celebrates the success of its historic even on Saturday with the first free elections in the country for 60 years, and is eagerly awaiting the outcome of the people's vote, early Monday morning somebody placed a bomb on the tomb of Zuhayr Ibn Qais Al-Balawi at the Sahaba Mosque in Derna causing what could be irreparable damage to the monument to the seventh century commander who helped bring Islam to the region. No casualites have been reported.

Nobody has taken responsibility for the explosion, but fingers of blame are being pointed at a small group of Safalists who are known to be very active in Derba. They refused to pray in the mosque because of Zuhayr Ibn Qais Al-Balawi tomb.

Salafists are also blamed for previous other activity since the end of the Gaddafi regime, that has been of great concern to the Libyan authoritis and people. Since a few months they also attacked a number of Sufi shrines in the country, including that hat of Sidi Abdul-Salam Al-Asmar Al-Fituri in Zliten.

Kanthapuram's Yatra timely: Chandy

The ‘Kerala Yatra' taken up by All-India Sunni Jamiyyathul Ulama general secretary Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musaliyar has come with the right message at the right time for the State, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said.

Addressing a packed Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium where activists of various Sunni Muslim organisations and fellowships gathered on Saturday to mark the culmination of the Yatra that began from Kasaragod on April 12, Mr. Chandy said the mission that upheld the values of humanity over hatred and advocated a humane approach, peace and communal harmony was aptly timed in a society which was being torn apart by terrorism and strife.


The Yatra, which would undoubtedly be discussed in public domain for several years to come, had called for rejection of weapons and for settling of differences of opinion through exchange of ideas and dialogue themed on humanity. The overwhelming reception accorded to the Yatra was enough indication of the success the mission had achieved, he added.

Delivering the keynote address, the Musaliyar suggested that a comprehensive project on the lines of the Literacy Mission be formulated by the government to shape a ‘humanitarian Kerala'. This was necessary because the vast developmental strides the State took were now being offset by unwanted trends. The Yatra, he said, had convinced him and his followers that the notions and beliefs that certain sections within the Muslim community held about the Kerala society were wrong.

No hatred

Just like Muslims had no hatred towards other religions, people from other religions too harboured no dislike towards them. Emotions and ideologies imported into the State, which did not do justice to the social and economic conditions of the State, were behind the cracks in the secular fabric here, he said.

Pointing out that many had raised doubts that the Yatra was a precursor to the formation of a political party by him, the Sunni leader said there never existed such an objective and moreover, he was against religious organisations converting into political parties.

However, that did not imply that Sunni organisations and activists did not have political awareness. They had a clear stance and even plans to address social issues and on development of the State and the nation and the Muslim community in particular. Those who had similar approaches would be supported as well.

Political interventions need not be construed as precursors to formation of a political party, he said, adding that there were Sunni institutions focusing on keeping activists abreast of religious, political, social and economic situations, which in turn played a major role in formulating the organisation's political stance.
